Avoiding Holiday Back Pain

The holidays are a wonderful time of year to spend with family and friends celebrating and re-connecting.

This time of year also brings with it many opportunities to injure our backs.

Holiday decorating means that many people will be using a ladder. The ladder should be set up on a firm level surface and remember not to lean too far to the side while working.

When in the kitchen it is a good idea to stand on a carpet or shock absorbing mat to reduce back and leg fatigue. Thanksgiving turkeys can be very heavy; ask for assistance lifting the turkey into and out of the oven.

Beware sitting for too long before or after holiday meals. Select a chair with good low back support or place a cushion behind your back for proper support.

Following these guidelines can help ensure a happy pain-free holiday.
