The Importance of Stretching

Stretching exercises used regularly have been proven to reduce musculoskeletal injuries. Repetitive contraction of muscles cause them to tighten and shorten which can lead to tendon or muscle injury during strenuous activities. Tight muscles can also cause an increase in injuries to the joints.

A stretching program can increase flexibility and the range of motion in joints while decreasing the chance of injury to joints , muscles and tendons. Daily spinal stretching can be an important way to decrease both pain and stiffness while reducing the chances of spinal injury during normal activities.   Talk to Dr. Barry or Dr. Bart during your next visit to discuss stretching and to receive your copy of recommended exercises.
